Your Korean name, chosen the way Korean families choose one

Not a random syllable mash-up. We match the sound of your name, the meaning of real hanja characters, and the five-element balance of your birthday — the same three things a Korean naming master (작명가) weighs.

How a Korean name is actually chosen

Three layers, all in the generator above.

01

Sound (음)

Korean given names are usually two syllables. We look for syllables whose first sound is close to your own name, so it still feels like you.
02

Meaning (한자)

Most Korean names are written in hanja. 서준 can be 瑞俊 “auspicious & talented” or 序準 “orderly & steady”. The characters are the meaning.
03

Element (오행)

Your birthday gives you a day element — Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal or Water. A good name carries the element that balances yours. Born in winter? A Fire character warms the chart.

Questions

Is this a real Korean name or a “fun” one?

Every name in the generator is a real given name used in Korea, with real hanja spellings. Many are among the most common names for children born in the 2020s.

What does the birthday have to do with it?

In Korean naming tradition (작명), the birth date and time give a chart of five elements. Parents choose characters whose element fills what the chart lacks. Our generator uses your day element and birth season — a simplified version of what a naming master does.

Do I need a Korean surname?

No. Foreigners usually keep their own surname and use a Korean given name. If you want one, the certificate can include a surname suggestion that harmonises with your given name.

How is the certificate different from the free generator?

The generator ranks names by rules. For the certificate a person reviews your name, birthday and the feel you want, picks three candidates, and typesets the one you choose with a full character-by-character explanation.
